Kind words
Working with Michaela is a pleasure, and I'm not just at saying that to be polite. She genuinely makes you feel confident and comfortable within moments of greeting you so you're ready to take the best photos ever. She's amazing with children and has a knack for getting even the toughest kiddos to smile. Her patience and gentle diligence for getting the perfect shot is something you wish you would find in more photographers. If you're looking for a photographer who is a true professional that provides you with the warmth of a close friend, Michaela is the best!
I will never want to have portraits taken by anyone else! When Michaela was just getting started, she took pictures of my family and they were PHEMONONAL! Six years later, she took my son's graduation pictures & we couldn't be happier. She even found a mirror image picture from our first session giving us this remarkable memory & exhibit of the changes from 11 to 17 in ways that separate photos could never show. Her instincts, insight & creativity make for an AMAZING result. Run, don't walk to Ristaino Photography. I guarantee you will be thrilled with the result!
Michaela captures the essence of the people she photographs, and displays the authenticity of the moment. Her work is effervescent and lovely, and I highly recommend working with her if you want to create lasting photographic memories. She is a delight to work with, professional in her approach but helps you to relax in the moment as she is snapping away. The results speak for themselves. Our family has now used her twice - once for my son's senior photos and once for my business photos. We were thrilled with her work both times. Highly recommended!!
Michaela has been taking photos of our family for years. I think what I find most amazing about her is that after a crazy photo session with two young boys--where I think "there is no way that we got good photos"---not only are the photos amazing, but there are so many amazing ones to choose from! She captures the fun-loving, caring nature of our family in a single shot and we couldn't ask for more. People always comment on the photos of hers we have displayed in our home. I would highly recommend her!
A skilled photographer with a great eye for composition and a relaxed manner that puts you at ease. She uses outdoor, natural settings whenever possible, which lends a softness and authenticity to her photos.I needed head shots for my author website and made an appointment with Michaela. She had scouted potential locations beforehand, and asked me what type of photos I had in mind, and what I might use them for. She was very prepared, so when it was time to take the actual photos, everything went smoothly, which put me further at ease. Michaela is personable, professional, and artistic. The perfect combo for a photographer!
I've wanted new family photos for quite a while, but was looking for something special. My family and I are from Germany and we're only here in the U. S. for a limited period of time. When I met Michaela I asked her if she could capture the California spirit in the pictures and, well, that's exactly what she did! She knew the best location and knew perfectly how to set the scene, so that we look beautiful and relaxed. The golden hills and live oaks in the background will always remind me of our wonderful years in the Bay Area.Thank you so much, Michaela, it was a great pleasure working with you! We will miss you now that you're in Florida!

Julia showed up in pink taffeta, striped tights, and platform pink sparkle boots.
Not for a costume party. For her senior portraits.
She is my favorite example of what happens when a senior shows up completely as herself.
We shot downtown — murals, alleyways, urban texture — because that`s where her energy belonged. The classic shots happened too. But the ones nobody could scroll past?
Pure Julia.
That`s what personality first looks like. When you stop trying to fit your senior into a template and let them show up as who they actually are, the photos answer themselves.
Location, outfits, mood — all of it follows.
You just have to start with the right question.

This page has grown lately — so it feels like a good time to reintroduce myself!
I’m Michaela - the girl behind the lens - and capturing seniors as they are learning to use their wings makes my heart sing!

Most of the families I meet are walking through this season with one foot on the gas and the other on the brakes.
Senior year is wild like that — packed with firsts and lasts, joy and friction, pride and ache.
It’s tempting to wait until things feel more certain. Until they’re less stressed. Until you are, too.
But the in-between is where the magic lives.
The late-night talks.
The car rides in silence.
The slammed doors, and long hugs after.
This season doesn’t need perfect.
It just needs presence.
If you’re in the thick of it — unsure, emotional, holding it all — know this:
It’s still worth remembering.
Ready when you are.

The goal was never “perfect.”
It was honest.
Photos that don’t ask her to perform or fit a moment she hasn’t grown into yet — but let her stay right where she is.
Because images grounded in emotion don’t go out of style.
They grow meaning with time.
Save this if you want photos that still feel like her years from now.
And if this resonates, you’ll love what I’m building with The Seen Sessions 🤍

What would have helped younger you feel seen?
Choosing a photographer isn’t always easy.
Even after scrolling through endless portfolios and saving all your favorite styles, it can still feel overwhelming.
Because somewhere deep down, you know it’s about more than light and location.
It’s about how you feel when the camera is on you.
Whether you’re allowed to show up fully — quiet or bold, soft or strong, smile or no smile.
It’s about choosing someone who makes space for that.
Someone who leads with care, not pressure.
Someone who values trust over perfection.
If that’s what you’re looking for, I’m really glad you’re here.
